Video Responses RIP
So, after nearly a decade, YouTube has decided to get rid of video responses. Like many people, I find this disappointing, as video responses have been a big part of my YouTube experience over the years.

Well, That's That...

This is a big day for the world. It is the last anniversary of this blog. This was a blog about everything, whether it were heady or absurd. I wrote about various categories for example: music, sports, politics, sex, spirituality, videogames, giraffes, the Snorks, the crumb sitting on the coaster in front of me right now, people with the last name: McGee, snowmen, cars, and the mysteries of life, among many other various topics that happened to pop into my head at that moment. So park'er in that desk chair you got on clearance at Office Depot and suffer through the journey of a mind which straddles the border between genius and maddness.Ah man, do I have to end this blog? I don't want to. I remembered how much fun it was, this past week composing and writing my blog posts, like old times. Then my dad commented about how he'll miss the blog, and Peter of JolVlogs commented about how he enjoyed reading my posts. I totally thought this blog was self serving. And then I started reminiscing over my old posts.
Here's why I decided to end this blog: first, I started a new job in 2011. Adjusting to the new routine, I didn't have a lot of energy for blogging or YouTubing, so they both kind of fell a way for a little bit. But the YouTube channel came first and I picked it back up. So, October 11 last year, as I went to write the anniversary post, I didn't have a whole lot to write about. When I began this blog, it sort of revolved around my life, so reviewing the year of this blog was like reviewing a year of my life. YouTube and Facebook have absorbed a lot of that, so it just wasn't the same. And I just didn't have the energy or drive to try to come up with something.
So, that post sort of hung in limbo for a while as an unsaved draft. I didn't want to post any of my new videos or any other blog post ideas I had until I finished the anniversary post. It was an annual tradition after all. Then, after getting fired up about "going the next level" with my YouTube channel this past summer, I decided it was too much to keep up with both blogging and YouTubing. So, after over a year of nothing, I decided that this was officially a dead blog. I had toyed with the idea of doing a final post for a while.
Then, I read on Facebook about the end of the Cort and Fatboy show. I decided it would be fitting to revive the blog to write about it, seeing how I've covered their story throughout this blog. And seeing how it ended a story which seemed to be tied into this blog, I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to do my final post. Then I got the brilliant idea to tie it in with the 2012 end of the Mayan calendar business.
So here is that post. It's all over now, as per Mayan prophesy. Well, it's been fun.
You know what? Screw the Mayans! They're just a bunch of dead guys/gals who used to sacrifice humans to their gods! They don't control my destiny!!

This is a big day for the world. It is another day of this blog. This is a blog about everything, whether it be heady or absurd. I will continue write about various categories for example: music, sports, politics, sex, spirituality, videogames, giraffes, the Snorks, the crumb sitting on the coaster in front of me right now, people with the last name: McGee, snowmen, cars, and the mysteries of life, among many other various topics that happen to pop into my head for the moment. So park'er in that desk chair you got on clearance at Office Depot and suffer through the journey of a mind which straddles the border between genius and maddness....the latter being rather prevalent...
And so, I've decided after all the hype, not to end this blog. I generally try not to be one of those people who makes a lot of hype and then changes their mind, but I guess for today I am. I don't know when the next blog post will be, but sometimes it's nice to be able to compose my thoughts/ feelings/ ideas into written form and include a fitting image. And so that's how this blog will remain; available for the next time I want to post. This blog will officially end when I have a new blog... more about that later.
So, I guess the Mayans were wrong about this blog. The sun will come out tomorrow, after all. See you next time. J-Dubb out.

Superstar of All Time
Ever since day two, Superstar of the Week has been one of the defining features of this blog. Superstar of the Week would come and go, dwindling down in the beginning of the year, and then picking back up in the summer. It began as a joke; I'd arbitrarily select some random person, usually a celebrity, to feature that week as the Superstar of the Week. No explanation as to why this person had been selected, no excerpts or information about this person, just a picture.
The week of the one-year anniversary of this blog, the year of the Chuck Norris facts, I decided to feature Chuck Norris as the Superstar of the Year. Every year following this, until the last two years, I would select a Superstar of the Year and write a full post on why I had selected this person.
In 2009, I decided that the old Superstar of the Week gag had run its course, and instead decided to purposefully select a Superstar of the Week, writing a full article about this person.
I posted Superstar of the Week/ Year, on Mondays. And so, for the final Monday of this blog, I have selected a Superstar of All Time. After careful consideration, I have decided to select Richard Dean Anderson.
Richard Dean Anderson represents two inspiring characters. The first of these is the well-know, Macguyver, of the 80s television show. In modern times, the term "macguyver" has come into popular use as a verb, meaning to jury-rig, or to create from scratch with limited supplies.
Macguyver represents an attitude. Lock most people up in a supply closet, and they'll sit there wishing that they had a key, a weapon, a window, that someone would rescue them, that they weren't locked in a supply closet, that they had never come on that trip in the first place. Macguyver, on the other hand, would look around and find some way to create an explosion, a makeshift key, or a non-lethal weapon, and be out of that supply closet. There's no such thing as a lock for Macguyver. There's just different types of doorknobs.
The common attitude in life, is to wish that something were different, that something would change for you. The Macguyver attitude is to recognize what you need in your surroundings and go from there.
The second character is Col. Jack O'Niell (two Ls) from Stargate SG1. What I find inspiring about Jack O'Niell can be summarized in one quote: "I don't trust anybody who doesn't have a sense of humor." In a world on the verge of blowing a gasket, always worried about something, constantly honking their horns at the "idiot drivers" who inconvenience them in traffic, there is Jack O'Niell; totally sincere yet always playful.
One of the great questions of modern society is: "does the man serve the machine or does the machine serve the man?" The common lifestyle in this society is to spend one's life serving the machine with no real purpose; not to experience joy, or serve one's fellow human. Ultimately, not even for the paycheck, but because it's what we're "supposed to do." But if you serve the corporate structure merely for the sake of the corporate structure, then what is it's purpose?
Then there are those who live with a purpose. Joy and well-being represent the purpose of life whereas despair, anxiety, and depression indicate that something isn't right, something needs aid. Instead of arbitrarily sacrificing ones joy and well-being for no real purpose, one lives for the purpose of alleviating suffering and increasing well-being. A sense of humor is like a gauge indicating whether one's attitude would serve the well-being of life, or snuff it out.
A fictional character, such as Jack O'Niell, represents a personalized set of ideals which one can choose to identify with and align with in themselves. Do I feel playful, or righteously indignant? If the latter, then something is off-kilter.
And so, as I prepare to end this blog, I feature a character who quite possibly represents the purpose of J-Dubb's Theatre. When I was younger, J-Dubb's Theatre was instrumental at a time when I was easily tempted to take myself too seriously. Well, I'm still easily tempted to take myself too seriously... but I got better.
If playing goofy characters helps me to not take myself too seriously, then maybe I can do a better job of serving the well-being of life. If that's the case, then this blog from which J-Dubb's Theatre sprang has served a purpose.
Now, stay tuned for the final blog post, December 21...

Cort and Fatboy is Dead
The End of a Chapter
It's been a while since I last posted here. The post beneath this one is a video I did over a year ago featuring a short-haired me. I'm not even entirely sure how to post anymore, as the Blogger layout has completely changed. The last post I went to write was the 2011 anniversary post, following the tradition of October 11 every preceding year since the original post. I wrote the title and uploaded the fireworks images just like I did in the original blog post and every anniversary post since. But I didn't have anything to write about. This blog, once the center hub of J-Dubb's Theatre, had become nothing more than a place to embed my YouTube videos, which people were already watching on my channel and on Facebook. This blog had diminished, and YouTube had become J-Dubb's Theatre central. So, the completion of that anniversary post became a back-burner "to do list" item for awhile, until I finally gave up the ghost. So, I found it fitting to revive this blog once more to chronicle the end of CortandFatboy, as I find this event, in a way, to be karmically intertwined with the fate of this blog.
In October of 2005, I was a young security officer working for a call center. I would pass the time by listening to 101 KUFO at my security desk. I would catch the end of the Cort and Boomer show, and then listen to the Tim Savage show. The writing in my original blog posts was inspired by the speaking style of Tim Savage. Eventually, Boomer left the Cort and Boomer show to be replaced by some guy named Fatboy. The time slots were then changed around to make room for the Marconi show, Kufo's new main event, so I didn't hear much of the Cort and Fatboy show at that time. I read a couple of Fatboy's blog posts though, and decided the guy was funny.
At the end of the year, I quit my security job to focus on school full time. In the mornings I would listen to the Adam Carolla show on Kufo, until, for whatever reason, I started listening to cds instead. At some point, I stopped listening to the Marconi show. As a grown adult wanting to be successful, I felt I had outgrown a fourty-something who still acted like a college fratboy. As I changed the J-Dubb's Theatre image from collegian to adult, I removed the Kufo link from this blog.
Some years later, I'm unsure why, I decided to tune in to Kufo. I must have been in a reminiscing mood. The Cort and Fatboy show happened to be on at the time. This was my first time really listening to their show since its inception, and I decided I was a fan. They were not douchey shock-jock fratboy wannabes like Marconi. They were funny and intelligent adults. I was delighted to learn that their show had taken over the Marconi time-slot, and Marconi was a thing of the past.
It turned out that I wasn't the only one who felt this way. They had a large fanbase of people who despised Marconi and felt refreshed by CortandFatboy's intelligent humor and discussion. Many people referred to them as the "saviors of radio" in that radio had become a poor medium for music in light of iPods and CDs, and this show was the only reason these people tuned in to the radio.
Around that same time, still in the reminiscing mood I guess, I decided to listen to the Adam Carolla show one morning. After driving for a little bit, I realized that it wasn't Adam Carolla I was listening to. This was something different called the Rick Emerson show. This was a sophisticated, adult-oriented show. Rick Emerson was perfectly complimentary to his foil, Sarah X. Dylan. And newscaster, Tim Riley, added the perfect touch. It seemed Kufo had grown up with me.
I began following Cort and Fatboy and the Rick Emerson crew on Twitter. I learned of the many local events these guys held, including midnight movies and the "survive it and drive it" event. I began following other "Portland" related people through their retweets. It turned out these guys were a major part of the Portland community. During that time, I became less interested in YouTube and more interested in Portland media. I've lived the majority of my life in the Portland area, but never felt more connected to the Portland community than this time.
I added the Kufo link back to this blog.
Then, October 2009, as I was about to tune into the show, I saw a rumor buzzing around Twitter that Cort and Fatboy had been fired. I turned on the radio, and sure enough, they were gone. The next morning, it was confirmed that the Rick Emerson crew had also been canned. Everybody involved with Kufo up to that time had been fired and replaced by Alpha Broadcasting, the new owners of Kufo and several other Portland stations. For the next several days, the only thing the station broadcast, was a countdown in a robotic voice with intermittent "mother ship refueling." As a further slap in the face, the newly revamped station brought back the despised Marconi. I covered this incident in my post, The Day the Radio Died.
A local podcast called PDX Sucks, hosted by Portlander, Robert Wagner, left a voicemail number for people to call and leave angry voicemails about the canning of Cort and Fatboy, and played the voicemails in a podcast. I was one of those people. I also wrote a couple of definitions for Kufo on Urban Dictionary, which people seemed to enjoy.
After a few weeks of angry tweeting and blogging, the Cort and Fatboy show made a comeback in podcast form. They resumed their midnight movie showings at the Baghdad, beginning with Raising Arizona. Also, Sarah X. Dylan along with Greg Nibler, former producer of the Rick Emerson Show, began a new podcast, Funemployment Radio. Cort and Fatboy eventually moved their podcast to PDX.fm, a podcast network run by Robert Wagner of PDX Sucks. After a while, Rick Emerson started a show on PDX.fm as well.
I listened to PDX Sucks, Cort and Fatboy, and Funemployment Radio for a while, and the list began to grow. At one point, PDX.fm hosted a large Portland telethon. This happened uncannily simultaneous with me posting a video about a mock fund raiser. I became irrationally concerned that people involved in the real fund raiser may have thought I was making fun of them. This is now one of many embarrassing life memories.
After a while, all the podcasts came to be too much. In the past, I could have the radio on in the background while working, and the Cort and Fatboy show would come on, and I could stop and listen. But I couldn't work while listening to a podcast. My podcast listening dwindled down to just Cort and Fatboy, and eventually, I stopped listening to that on a regular basis, as well. In 2010, my Portland media interest diminished, and I made a comeback on YouTube.
In April of 2011, I don't remember how, but I found out that Kufo had gone off the air. After the Alpha Broadcasting revamp, ratings plummeted until the station just didn't hold up any longer. What was 101 KUFO since 1989 was replaced by talk radio. I have memories of listening to the radio in my room as a kid in the 90s and hearing the KUFO call letters. As of April 2011, that station is no more.
Around the same time, I'm unsure of the proximity or sequence, Robert Wagner sold Cascadia.fm, formerly known as PDX.fm. He went back to being an independent blogger/ podcaster.
And now, in conclusion to the saga, the Cort and Fatboy show has ended. The final show was held live at the Baghdad Theatre. Regrettably, I wasn't able to attend because I had accepted a late shift before I knew about the show. But it's over.
And now, I have decided to follow suit and end this blog. This was chapter one of J-Dubb's Theatre. Chapter two, my YouTube channel, is going strong. But this blog has been defunct for a little over a year now. So I've decided, rather than letting it dwindle into the ether of abandoned blogs, I will give it a ceremonious ending.
And so, just as the Mayans predicted, December 21 2012 will be the end. Stay tuned...
edit: At the time this post was written, I had not published anything to this blog since October 2011. It was very much a defunct blog. As of June 2020, all videos that were uploaded to the J-Dubb's Theatre YouTube channel, between October 2011 and the date of this post, have been published to this blog, dated according to their original upload dates.

6 Years...

In October of 2011, I logged on to Blogger, clicked "New Post", and titled that post "6 Years". This was to be my anniversary post, as I had done every year up to that point, in which I recount the activities of J-Dubb's Theatre from the previous October to the present. After writing the title, I stopped and decided to save this post for later. I did not post to this blog again for over a year. This, effectively, was the end of my regular posting to this blog, as I had done since October of 2005. This post, with only a title, has been saved as a draft ever since.
Now, nine years later, I have finally decided to resume this 6 year anniversary blog post...
On October 11, 2010, I posted my 5 year blog post. I did this a bit differently from my usual anniversary posts. Instead of just recounting the previous year, I recounted the previous five years.
At this time, I was in the middle of a contest on YouTube. I created an advertisement for YouTube, and interviewed two political rivals.
Superstar of the Year was Keith Urban, chosen somewhat out of spite.
Halloween season was pretty clown heavy. Pennywise was the Superstar of the Week, and my final video for the contest on YouTube, which was also my Halloween video for the year, featured a guy being stalked by the objects of his phobia. Then, Nosferatu VI featured another horrible creature, the lamprey.
In November, I tried to sell a fish tank to Greg Benson, and Roach taught us all about the story of Thanksgiving.
In December, I picked apart the Christmas classic, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.
In January, I recounted the entire year of 2010 on YouTube. I was a little confused, because the whole year had gone by so fast, and in my confusion, I confused Floyd. But Jim straightened things out. Then, I wrote a blog post about the new year, and the the first year of my 30s.
In February, Greg Benson responded to my deal to sell him my fish tank, but he was a little vague. Did he mean, "no" as in "Not just yet"? And, if so, when? Also, I predicted that the world would end in 2021, and celebrated my 4th anniversary on YouTube, in two parts, by reuniting the whole J-Dubb's Theatre gang: Floyd, Jim, Roach, D. Baggins, Wilhelm Hendrickson, Roger LeBlanc, Willy Hicks, and even the sinister Belphegor.
In March, my camera went haywire, cutting out in the middle of a video, and then filming at random times throughout the day. After a two week hiatus, my camera suddenly started filming again, while I was in the middle of packing for a trip.
In April, I was still unable to control my camera, which would catch me at inopportune times. So, I would just roll with it and do a video while it was filming. During this time, I began a YouTuber Award series. Then, a year and a half after the radio takeover of 2009, KUFO breathed it's last, and went off the air for good. I began a campaign to change the next Facebook layout back to the current one, and I proposed a way to bring back the dinosaurs.
May was a pretty busy month. After Rebecca Black had sung about Friday, I got together with some friends, and decided to sing about Tuesday. And, there were outtakes. I then came out of hibernation, featured The Winekone, was raptured, and ridiculed Donald Trump for being a complete moron.
In June, I was hunted down by clowns. I then had a totally unrelated job interview, and decided to think of some ways to alleviate the tension. Then, after being indoctrinated by the clowns, I tried to convert you. Fortunately, Roach hired a deprogrammer to get me out of that situation. Good ol' Roach. So much more useful than he seems.
Then, I told Hollywood to chill with the CGI. Also, up until that week, I had been uploading on Fridays. I decided to expand to twice a week and upload on Tuesdays and Fridays. For my first Tuesday video, I featured Lamar Wilson. However, thanks to my changed schedule with my new job, my first Tuesday video turned out to be my last Tuesday video, and all J-Dubb's Theatre activities slowed down.
In July, I introduced the world to Harry the Hipster, caught mono, and uploaded a video featuring death defying extreme stunts.
There was absolutely zero J-Dubb's Theatre activity for the month of August. Then, in September, I announced my return. I uploaded a video titled I'm Back, which featured me, at one point, driving a rental pickup, due to my car having been smashed into by a girl who was so insistent that she could do no wrong, she actually went to court to testify against the traffic lights. I'm not making that up. I then taught you how to lose weight.
Finally, I uploaded a video, featuring some strange guy with a mustache, who definitely wasn't me in disguise. In this video, I...er... this guy attempted to sell a time machine that looked like a fish tank, but was definitely not a fish tank, to Greg Benson. This was the last post I uploaded to this blog. Well, I have uploaded posts since then, every now and again. But, this was the end of its run as an active blog. After this, J-Dubb's Theatre activities were conducted solely through YouTube.
In October, I began my anniversary post, which I titled "6 years". But, I just wasn't motivated to recount the previous year. It was almost all video posts, with few written posts, and I hadn't posted a single Superstar of the Week that entire year. The unwritten anniversary post remained saved as a draft for 9 years.
Then, June 29, 2020, I finally finished this 6 year anniversary blog post, and published it with a date stamp of October, 11, 2011.

Ten Ways to Liven up a Job Interview

In this economy, there are a lot of people looking for jobs. With so many people looking for jobs at one time, it is increasingly difficult to get hired, making for a lot of interviews. But fear not, the interview process doesn't have to be rigorous at all. In fact, it can be a lot of fun, if you make it that way. Here are ten things you can do to make your interview a pleasant experience.
10. The Medieval Bard
At some point, the interviewer will ask you some questions, such as "tell me a story about a time when you solved a problem at an old job." At this point, you will be challenged to impress the interviewer with a story. You can really make your stories stand out by presenting them in song.
Lean in close and engage your interviewer with an intense look in your eyes. Then begin your song slowly and dramatically:
One day while I was working for Intellecorp
We were having conflicts with our IPC reports
Then, let your song build up from there.
9. The Movie Announcer
Announce everything you say with your best impression of the movie announcer guy. When you walk in to the building, go up to the desk and say, "A man/woman, searching for an opportunity awaits the interview of destiny." If the receptionist understands what you're trying to say, continue this throughout the interview.
8. It's a Family Thing
Have two friends accompany you wearing suits and sun glasses. Speak with an Italian accent. When asked who your two companions are, reply, "They're my people. Where I go, they go." This will be especially funny if you are blatantly not Italian, such as red haired, African, or Asian.
Be vague about your answers and end them with, "You know, family stuff." Cut the interview short and say, "Well, I've got to be going now. But I'll be seeing you Monday." Then look at one of your men and say, "Right Tony?" and laugh. You'll be hired.
7. Look Who's Talking
Bring in a ventriloquist dummy. Fill the time with much bickering between you and your wooden companion.
6. The Sound of Silence
Dress like a mime. Do not speak, just pantomime everything. It will be a lot like playing charades. How fun for the interviewer.
5. Call the Police
Show up dressed as a local police officer and ask for the person interviewing you by name. You can arrest this person, or tell them that a family member is in the hospital. When they are clearly distraught, say "Just kidding, I'm actually here for a job interview." If they act upset, scold them for not having a sense of humor.
4. Who's Interviewing Whom?
You interview the interviewer. When the interviewer stops you and says something like, "Wait, I'll be the one to ask the questions," simply let them proceed, and then work your answer into another question for them.
3. Childish Behavior
Send a child age 4 to 6 to take the interview for you in your name.
2. Life Coach
Be the interviewer's Tony Robbins. Ask questions such as "Are you happy?", and "If you had the opportunity to do whatever you wanted, what would it be?" Be sure to pepper in motivating statements such as, "I believe in you."
and number 1...
1. Propose to the Interviewer
Get down on one knee and really mean it. Be sure to have a ring, and maybe even work up some tears. Nothing would make you happier than to spend the rest of your life with the interviewer.

J-Dubb's Theatre and Winter Hibernation
One thing that's been consistent about J-Dubb's Theatre over the years is its tendency to hibernate through the winter and then wake back up for the summer. Towards the end of the year, I start winding down, and as soon as the year changes over, J-Dubb's Theatre goes into hibernation mode. Sure, I wake up occasionally to eat, drink, post my weekly video, and check in on my YouTube friends, but blog posts and tweets become rare, I comment on videos a lot less, and I spend little time going through my subscription page. I guess I tend to focus more on non-internet things during the beginning of the year. Then, in the spring time, I start to stretch, get up, and leave the cave more often. This usually starts with the urge to reminisce. I'll go over old blog posts and tweets. I'll watch old videos; my own as well as others I've seen. And then I start checking into YouTube to see what I've missed. Before long I find myself wanting to get back into the swing again.
This year has been no exception. Without deliberate intention, my focus went elsewhere at the beginning of the year. But now that it's getting close to summer, the J-Dubb's Theatre bug seems to be coming back. It started with the urge to start blogging again just a few weeks ago, and now I'm beginning to check up on the YouTube community to see what I've been missing.
Year after year, for the last five and a half years, this has been the consistent trend. So, if history continues to repeat, which it seems to be so far, I guess I'm just about back.
What's up internets. J-Dubb here.

How to Bring Back Dinosaurs
You may not realize this, but for years now I've been plotting to bring back the dinosaurs. Back in the 90's, things seemed hopeful with the whole "DNA in mosquitoes trapped in amber" ploy, as seen in Jurassic Park. But that idea was short lived, and for the last decade, it has seemed that the only way we would ever see dinosaurs would be with the aid of a time machine.Cloning dinosaurs from preserved DNA may be an impossibility, but I have found another solution. Once again, I am determined to make the modern dinosaur into a reality. My solution has three steps.
1. Selective Breeding
Instead of searching for ancient preserved DNA and utilizing unreliable cloning techniques, why not breed back the dinosaurs from their modern equivalent; birds.People have used selective breeding to "breed back" certain types of animals to their ancestral form.
The ancestors of modern domestic cattle, the aurochs, have been extinct for quite some time now. Through selective breeding, hex cattle has been bred in order to restore cattle to its original form.
The tamascan dog is a breed of canine which has had the ancestral wolf traits bred back into it (minus the wanting to eat you trait) without using wolves in the breeding. Now families can effectively own a wolf as the family dog without getting eaten, which is the drawback to owning standard wolves.
I figure that using selective breeding, I can breed back birds to a more primitive species, such as the archaeopteryx.
I will begin with the hoatzin, an ancient breed of bird which is still alive today. Hoatzin chicks have claws at the end of their wings, used for climbing, which they lose into adulthood. I will breed hoatzins for the ability to retain their claws longer into their lives, until I have a breed which maintains its claws throughout adulthood. I will also look for genetic anomolies, such as three claws rather than the standard two claws, and breed these traits into the species.
I will breed for other achaeopteryx-like traits, too. As well, I will include other bird species into the breeding mix which have other such needed traits. Eventually I will have a new species of archaeopteryx-like bird.
2. Gene Splicing
Now, breeding birds back to a primitive bird species is one thing, but breeding birds back to dinosaurs presents several problems. For one, there are several dinosaur traits that birds just don't have anymore.Another major problem, is that dinosaurs are descended from reptiles and birds from dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are closely related to reptiles whereas our new species of bird is that much further removed from reptiles.
Obviously, we can't breed the reptile back into these animals, so we'll have to look to gene splicing. Using reptile species related to those which dinosaurs descended from, I will splice back those reptilian traits such as the long tail and the reptilian teeth.
Using a combination of selective breeding and gene splicing, I can take the archaeopteryx back to the pterosaurs and from there breed back to the raptors. From that point, I can breed back to many other species of dinosaur.

3. Dinosaur DNA
So, now we've created a species which is kind of related to the dinosaurs and has the same bone structure. But there's still one problem; they're not actually dinosaurs.
This is where we incorporate actual dinosaur DNA. Instead of looking for complete strands of DNA from which to clone a full fledged dinosaur, we can just use the DNA scraps that we find and splice that into the animals just like we did with the reptilian DNA. Now we have our new species of dinosaur.

So, the formula is:
selective avian breeding + reptilian gene splicing + dino DNA
= neo dinosaurs
= neo dinosaurs

RIP KUFO
The Final Demise of Portland's 101 KUFO
About a year and a half ago, I wrote a post called, The Day the Radio Died. In this post, I discussed how the company, Alpha Broadcasting, acquired several Portland radio stations including 101 KUFO. Shortly after, the new management fired the iconic personalities of that station and replaced them with grab bag shock jocks in order to conform the station to a "by the book" demographic, rather than conducting actual market research.I haven't paid any attention to, or even thought much about KUFO since that time. This is why, after a month, I have just now learned that KUFO has been taken off the air and replaced with a news/ talk radio station called KXL FM. I decided to cover this on J-Dubb's Theatre as a follow up to my previous coverage.
I dug around the web for stories and found that, interestingly, there hasn't been nearly as much coverage on the station's plug being pulled as there was on the firing of the personalities one and a half years ago. It seems that the city, for the most part, lost interest in the station after that, with the exception of a few niche hard core rockers.
At first, I was glad to learn that Alpha Broadcasting's arrogant attempt at "fixing" the station had failed. But as I read on, I began to feel kind of sad about it. KUFO has been around for a long time. I used to listen to it as a kid. In fact, I have kind of a history with the station.
I remember being a kid playing in my room with the radio tuned to KUFO.
After separating from the military, I worked security. For two years, I came in to work, sat down at the lobby desk, and changed the station to 101 KUFO, which I would listen to from 4pm to midnight. In the beginning, I would catch the end of the Cort and Boomer Show and then listen to the Tim Savage Show.
When I first began this very blog, my writing voice was inspired by Tim Savage. One could say that J-Dubb's Theatre, as it lives and breathes today, owes something to KUFO. I even had a link to KUFO's website in my sidebar.
Eventually, a guy calling himself, "Fatboy", began talking on the Cort and Boomer Show. At the time, I didn't know who he was or where he came from, but I thought he was funny. Before long, he replaced Boomer, and the show became The Cort and Fatboy Show.
KUFO brought in controversial DJ, Marconi, and The Marconi Show pushed The Tim Savage Experience later into the evening. In the beginning, I enjoyed The Marconi Show, and I listened to it for the remainder of my time working security. But as I transitioned into my late twenties, I grew tired of listening to a creepy 40-something trying to act like a frat-boy. I eventually removed the KUFO link from this blog.
When I started going to school full time, I listened to The Adam Corolla Show in the mornings on the way to school. This lasted for about a year, and then I began listening to just CDs.
In 2009, several things happened. For one, KUFO's Cort and Fatboy presented the last season of Battlestar Galactica at Portlands Baghdad Theatre, which I attended. Around the same time, one day, I decided to tune in to The Adam Corolla Show for old time's sake, only to find that it had been replaced by the Rick Emerson Show. I became a regular listener.
I also discovered that Marconi was no longer with KUFO and that Cort and Fatboy had taken over his old slot. At this point, I became heavily involved with KUFO. I even put their link back into my sidebar. I became interested in Portland media and for a while, this replaced YouTube as the main focus of J-Dubb's Theatre.
Then, in October of that year, Alpha Broadcasting fired the entire KUFO staff. For about a week, the station aired a mysterious count-down while intermittently announcing "mother ship refueling." After this, KUFO introduced their new staff, including a rehired Marconi, Kidd Chris, formerly of The Howard Stern Show, and a piece of work from Seattle named "Ricker." The KUFO link came back down from my sidebar.
J-Dubb's Theatre served as a supporter of Cort and Fatboy and of PDX.FM (now Cascadia.FM), the podcasting network which picked up the new Cort and Fatboy show and eventually the new Rick Emerson show.
For a year and a half after this, KUFO rarely crossed my mind. Then, March 15, 2011, KUFO's plug was pulled. Alpha Broadcasting's shotgun blast had been fatal, and KUFO had slowly bled to death. I learned of this April 10th.
RIP KUFO

On the plus side, perhaps I'll start using this blog for actual blogging again instead of just a port for my YouTube videos. Stay tuned...

Here We Go Again
So... 2011, huh?
I remember last year at this time, I felt like I was under a lot of pressure because I was on the verge of turning 30 and hadn't accomplished a lot of things that I wanted to accomplish by that time. In my mid 20s, I had set out to work on a PHD in psychology, but by January of last year, I was unemployed and single, and even though I had a community college degree, it was a far cry from the PHD I had set out for. Even on the more recreational side, my YouTube channel had become a ghost town. The day before my 30th birthday, I felt really discouraged.
But the day my 30s became a reality, something changed. There was a moment where I realized that my plans and aspirations generally had to do with appealing to other people's expectations. In fact, I didn't really even have any real plans. Just a bucket list of things that I figured should happen.
The day I turned 30, what I once viewed as a deadline became a point of liberation. I was free to do what I wanted and really live my life as I saw fit. It took a while and there were a lot of ups and downs. But, by the end of the year, I finally came up with a game plan. And along the way, I've enjoyed myself, thanks to my friends and family.
Now that it's January, back to the ol' beginning of the year grind, I think I'll reflect on the liberation that I experienced last year as I set my plans into action.
This post is part of a series of New Year's posts.
